Standard inks are available in a variety of colors. Ink colors are available in both flat and raised ink. Printing in flat ink is available on all products except Bright, Fluorescent and Gloss business card stocks. Printing in raised ink is available on business cards, letterhead and envelopes. Flat ink dries flat and smooth on the paper/stock it is printed on. Raised ink dries raised above the surface of the paper/stock it is printed on. Raised ink is textured, durable and has an engraved, shiny look. Laser/copier compatible inks are available for both flat and raised inks. Not all standard ink colors are available on some products and additional colors may be available on others.
In addition to the Standard Ink Colors above, we also offer a wide spectrum of colors found in the Pantone(R) Matching System. We currently support the Pantone(R) Basic Colors, the 3 digit Pantones from the Pantone(R) Color Formula Guide (Pantone 100 - 732) and the Pantone(R) Metallics 871 - 877. NOTE: Pantone(R) inks printed on stocks other than white will not match the Pantone(R) Color Formula Guide. For best results, select a white stock when you need an exact color match. Colored papers and stocks will affect the final ink color.

Other ink colors including Focoltone, RGB, Process Color, SpectraMaster(R), Trumatch, HKS(R)  and certain Pantone(R)  colors including Pastels, Hexacrome, Fluorescents, 2X impression and Metallics (excluding those mentioned above) are not available.

Foil stamping produces a shiny, metallic look (except for black and white foil which look glossy).  Foil is stamped flat into the surface of the paper/stock. Not all standard foil colors are available on some products and additional colors may be available on others.

Card Stock and Paper

Our stock and paper selection is of the finest quality. Many of our stocks and papers can be seen online in this catalog. Business Cards

• Business Card Specifications:  Standard Business Card size is 3.5" x 2". Landscape and portrait orientations are both readily available. The standard Printing Area on Business Cards is 3.25" x 1.75", leaving a 1/8" blank margin all around the card. Printing beyond the standard margin in ink is available on our Custom Printed Business Cards and is known as a Bleed. Foil bleeds are not available.

• Inks:  Standard Business Cards are available in all raised ink or all flat ink.  The ink used on Business Cards is NOT suitable for Laser Printers (Do NOT run your business card through a Laser Printer or Copier!).  We will not print a solid area more than 1/2 the size of a business card. Large reverses, screens and bleeds are available on our Custom Printed Business Cards. Flat ink is not available on white gloss cover card stock.

• Foils:  Fine and small text is not suitable for Foil Stamping. We will not foil stamp a solid area more than 1/4 the printing area of a card. Screens and bleeds are not available for Foil Stamping. Some business card designs/layouts that require ink and foil registration may only be available in flat ink (not raised). Two foil designs/logos that require multiple points of registration are not available. Keep foil stamped text larger than 8 points.

• Stock:  Various card stocks of the finest quality are available for Business Cards.  Recycled stocks meet EPA specifications for recycled paper.


Letterhead, Envelopes and Announcements

• Letterhead Specifications:  Standard Letterhead size is 8.5" x 11". When deviating from the standard layouts, the standard Printing Area is the top or bottom half of the letterhead OR right or left half of the letterhead. In addition, the following minimum margins apply - 3/8" margin on the top, 1/4" margin on the sides and bottom. Heavy coverage, borders and bleeds are not available on stationery products.

• Envelope Specifications:  Regular Envelope size is 4.125" x 9.5" (#10).  When deviating from the standard layouts, the standard Printing Area is limited to the top and left edges. The following minimum margins apply - 3/8" margin on the top and left.  Window envelopes are NOT compatible with Laser Printers or Copiers due to the plastic window.  Printing and stamping are not available on the back flap. Heavy coverage, borders and bleeds are not available on stationery products.

• Announcement Specifications:  Announcements are available in a variety of sizes. The following minimum margins apply - 1/2" margin on all sides.  Announcements are NOT compatible with Printers or Copiers. Heavy coverage, borders and bleeds are not available on stationery products. Foil is not available on Standard Announcements.

• Inks:  Letterhead can be printed with Raised Ink,  Laser Compatible Raised Ink, Flat Ink or Laser Compatible Flat Ink.  Please specify Laser Compatible Raised Ink if you plan to use your stationery with Laser Printers or Copiers. Only 20% screens are available.

• Foils:  Fine and small text is not suitable for Foil Stamping.  We will not foil stamp a solid area more than 1.5" square (2.25 sq. inches) or a rule over 7.5" long.  On stationery which contain Ink and Foil Stamping, the two must allow for slight movement. Some stationery designs/layouts that require ink/foil or foil registration may only be available in flat ink (not raised). Two foil designs/logos that require multiple points of registration are not available. Keep text larger than 8 points.

• Stocks:  Various papers of the finest quality are available.  Laser Compatible finishes may be requested on letterhead and envelopes.  Recycled stocks meet EPA specifications for recycled paper.


Labels

• Label Specifications:  Many sizes are available, please consult the product pages for specific sizes.

• Inks:  Labels are printed with flat ink.  Laser/Ink Jet Compatible Flat Ink is available on sheeted laser/ink jet labels. Bleeds are available.

• Foils:  Fine and small text is not suitable for Foil Stamping.  We will not foil stamp a solid area more than 1.5" square (2.25 sq. inches).  Two foil designs/logos that require multiple points of registration are not available. Keep text larger than 8 points.

• Stocks:  A variety of  label stocks are available, from standard papers to synthetic films. Each label stock is designed with a specific application in mind and is of the highest quality. Unless otherwise noted, the stocks are intended for indoor use.

White Matte Litho - a high quality, paper stock which is designed to offer excellent print characteristics. Matte Litho is recommended for labels that must be written or typed on.

Gloss - excellent, high quality coated paper stock with a surface that provides a high sheen or glossy look. This stock should not be used when it is necessary to write or type on the label at a later time.

Red, Orange, Lime-Green, Green or Pink Fluorescent - a matte coated paper with a fluorescent finish that excels in brilliance and visual impact. Black ink is recommended for this stock.

Bright Gold, Matte Gold, Bright Silver or Matte Silver Foil - this paper stock provides a classic foil metallic appearance.  Not intended to be written or typed on.

Brown Kraft - classy, high quality paper stock with a natural brown, unbleached matte finish.

White Thermal Transfer - an ultra smooth, smudge proof stock that is designed for use with thermal transfer printers (for numbering and bar codes.) Areas that are not to be printed with a thermal transfer printer can be flexographically printed in a variety of ink colors, allowing for great looking product and inventory labels.

White Direct Thermal - a thermal imaging label stock that is heat activated.

Clear Film - low cost synthetic which can be custom printed. Stock has an appearance similar to clear packaging tape.

Durable Synthetics - Vinyl, Mylar, Polyester, Kindura - durable synthetics with added strength and resistance. These stocks are used for outdoor labels, asset control labels and decals. Vinyl and Mylar are generally laminated once printed and offer resistance to abrasion, cleaning solvents and weather. Great for both indoor or outdoor use.

White Laser - an uncoated stock that works well with most medium to high speed laser printers.


• Label Adhesives:  Permanent adhesive is used on all label products, unless otherwise noted. Removable adhesive features a high initial tack, with excellent bond strength.

• Label Lamination, Varnish & UV Coatings: These protectants extend the life of your label.

Lamination - clear laminate used to provide added label protection and increase durability.

Varnish - a low abrasion resistant varnish.

UV - a high gloss overprint that offers abrasion, mild solvent and water resistance. Use on prime labels or wherever quality appearance is desired.


Folders and Folder Envelopes

• Folder & Folder Envelope Specifications:  Folder size is 9" x 12". Folder envelopes measure 9 1/2" x 12 5/8" in size.

• Folder & Folder Envelope Inks: Printing is available in flat ink.  Print an area up to 16 square inches in size in any location, on the front cover that is at least 1/8" from any edge or fold. For best results, use text that is larger than 8 points. Heavy coverage and bleeds are not available.

• Folder & Folder Envelope Foil:  Foil stamping is available in a variety of metallic and non-metallic colors.  Foil stamp an area up to 10 square inches in size in any location, on the front cover that is at least 1/8" from any edge or fold. For best results, use text that is larger than 8 point. Take care to avoid thin lines, screens and small, intricate detail.

• Stock:  Various folder stocks of the finest quality are available.  Recycled stocks meet EPA specifications for recycled paper.


Layouts

At Border X Press you are free to use your own layout on any of the printed / foil stamped items we sell. Just keep in mind the limitations listed for each product, such as margins and overall printing area.

Because labels and folders are very much free in form and may be printed any way you like (again, keep in mind the limitations mentioned in each product page), there are no sample layouts for these items.

We do offer over 78 combined sample business card, letterhead and envelope layouts.  Our layouts are modern and up to date, many take into consideration the all important e-mail and web address information which so many of us need to have on our cards and stationery these days.  Please feel free to mix and match, use whatever works best for you.  Follow this link to view our sample layouts. Fonts (Typestyles)

A variety of fonts are available. Our selection can be viewed online. Please follow this link to view our stock fonts.  This page is also accessible from the Helpful Links menu at your left.

These days there exists an ever growing amount of available typestyles. In the past we have had quite a bit of success by simply allowing our customers to select any typestyle they wish to use (even if it is not in our online selection, however please mention the fonts used) and this policy will continue. There are no added fees for this. If we do not have the font you have requested, we will contact you and provide instructions on how to convert your custom font to curves/outlines.


Stock Artwork and Logos

Stock artwork and logos may be requested when placing your order by simply entering the artwork/logo number into the order form.

The images can be enlarged or reduced to fit your needs. Each can be printed in any one ink or foil color. Logos with thin lines or very fine detail may not be suitable for foil stamping.

Customer Supplied Layouts, Logos, Files and Samples

Border X Press encourages customers to use and submit their custom layouts, logos or existing electronic/printed business cards and stationery. We accept many different files created by many of today's popular software applications. More than likely the software is already on your computer and you are pretty good at using it. Once you have designed just what you had in mind, e-mail an attachment and we will take care of the rest. There are no additional charges or fees associated with customer supplied artwork!

You may design your printed item using your own software. Simply save your file in one of the many popular file formats we accept (see below). Once you place your order (or reorder) and receive your order confirmation number, email your file to info@borderxpress.com. When sending us your file(s), please include your order confirmation number in the subject line of your email message.

Below is a brief list of the programs that create the types of files we accept. Many other software applications and utilities not listed are capable of creating the types of files we accept. If you are uncertain whether we would be able to utilize your file, simply browse the file extensions below and save (or export) to one of the formats below.

These are the types of files we prefer (listed by extension):
.ai, .cdr, .eps, .pdf, lineart (black/white 600 or 1200 ppi/dpi) .tif - submitting a combination of any two file types would really be great and most likely speed things up/eliminate any questions, back and forth email, etc.

These are the types of files we accept (listed by extension):
.001, .ai, .biz, .bmp, .cdr, .cgm, .cmx, .cpt, .dcx, .doc, .drw, .dxf, .emf, .env, .eps, .fax, .fpx, .gem, .gif, .iff, .img, jpg, .lbl, .ltr, .pcd, .pct, .pcx, .pdf, .pic, .png, .pp4, .pp5, .ppt, .ps, .psd, .pub, .pxr, .ras, .rtf, .tif, .txt, .wmf, .wmp, .wsd, and .wp4 through .wp7.

I.  How to prepare your files using a Graphic Design Application - Find your software and follow the file format guidelines
• Adobe Acrobat(R) - Save as .pdf file. If available, enclose any embedded graphics separately.

• Adobe Illustrator(R) - Convert all text to outlines (curves), .eps file format preferred.

• Adobe Photoshop(R) - File must have a resolution of 600 pixels per inch and 100 % size (1:1). Rasterize all text. Save file in .psd format. Other formats ok - .jpg or .tif.

• Broderbund(R) PrintMaster(R) - Save as .biz, .env, etc, etc. Enclose any embedded graphics separately.

• CorelDraw(R)  - Convert all text to curves. Save as .cdr file or export to .eps file.

• Corel Photo-Paint(R)  - File must have a resolution of 600 dpi and 100 % size (1:1). Convert all text to curves. Save file in black/white (lineart) .cpt format. Other formats ok - .jpg or .tif.

• Macromedia(R) Freehand - Convert all text to paths. Export to .eps format.

• Microsoft Powerpoint(R) Save as .ppt file.

• Microsoft(R) Publisher -  Save as .pub file.

• QuarkXPress(R) Save as .eps file, no native file format accepted. Enclose any embedded graphics separately.

II.  How to prepare your files using other Design, Painting and Drawing Applications - Follow guidelines
•  Draw, Paint, etc. - Picture like files must have a resolution of 300 dpi, with 600 dpi preferred for complicated files. Save at 100% size (1:1). Many applications capable of creating .bmp, .drw, .gif, .jpg, .png and .tif files will fall into this category. If possible, convert your text to outlines (or curves/paths) before saving or exporting.
III.  How to prepare your files using Word Processors, Spreadsheet, and Assorted Applications - Follow guidelines
•  AutoCad, Excel, Notepad, Word, Wordpad, WordPerfect, Works, etc. - There are no special instructions when preparing these types of files, however we may request you fax a copy of your document to us. If available, enclose any placed graphics separately (such as .jpg, .tif, .bmp, etc.).
IV. How to prepare your files for customer supplied artwork with screens, pictures, photos, shading or halftones
•  All Applications - You must submit camera ready artwork. We will not work, touch-up or edit customer supplied artwork falling into the above category. Please submit a camera ready file in .eps format (preferred), .psd format, .cdr format or .cpt format.
Large files or groups of files may be zipped using Winzip, StuffIt or Windows compressed files. We do not accept .exe files or self extracting files, nor honor customer requests to download files.

Note: Border X Press will not print material which is libelous, obscene, scandalous or adult-oriented. We do not accept these types of orders.

Production Tolerances, Variations and Limitations

The production information provided below is designed to ensure a competitive price while maintaining acceptable quality standards.  Please be aware of the tolerances, variations and limitations which may occur on your order or reorder.

• Quantities:  On Business Cards and Stationery, quantities delivered may be ± 5% of the actual quantity ordered.

• Size:  A maximum variance of ± 1/32" may occur on the size of any given business card, letterhead or envelope.

• Squareness:  Business Cards, Envelopes and Labels may be ± 1/32" out of square. Letterhead and Folders may be ± 1/16" out of square.

• Margins:  Business Card, Envelope, Letterhead, Label and Folder margins may vary ± 1/16".

Paper Color and Stock Variance:  There may exist slight color differences in different batches of colored paper and stock. This is due to manufacturer inconsistencies which occur from dye batch to batch. We have no control over this and will not refund / return any order on these grounds. Different types of stocks with different physical and chemical properties are used to manufacture different products (Cover for business cards, text for letterhead, matte white litho for labels, etc., etc.,) and thus color may vary slightly.

• Color Variations between Flat, Raised and Laser Proof Raised Inks: A variation in color between flat, raised and laser proof inks of the SAME color do occur. These different inks are chemically different and exact color matches between them are not possible. The substrate (paper) which ink is printed on will also affect the look of a color. This is due to the material itself altering the physical appearance of any given ink color and the way we, as humans, interpret combinations of different colors. For best results always select a stock color lighter than the ink color you choose.

• Color Variations between Standard Inks printed at different times: A variation in color between standard inks printed at different times may occur. Standard ink colors may vary in shade from print run to print run. Variations exist due to raw material availability and changes that occur over time due to pigment fading and paper aging. In addition, standard ink colors may come from different suppliers and thus are approximate colors. The color of the material which ink is printed on will also affect the shade of a color, so process blue printed on white stock will not look the same when printed on an ivory or gray stock.

• Recycled Paper:  Recycled paper meets E.P.A. standards.  As with all recycled products, paper and color imperfections do occur and should be expected.

• Glossy/Coated Paper and Flat Ink Printing: Flat ink is not available on gloss business cards.

Two-Sided Printing on Business Cards: We are NOT able to register printing on two different sides. Printing may be up to ± 1/16" out of alignment.

Borders and Concentric Designs (including decorative, frames, borders that bleed, floodcoats with white/blank borders): We are NOT responsible for exact registration of borders, double borders, compound circles or compound designs.  Double borders which incorporate ink and foil are not available on any items. Also, see Squareness (above) - ie, borders may be out of square and not appear centered on the cut and finished product. To reduce the chances of this occuring, use a  3/8" or 1/4" margin or greater, if possible. Borders are not available on stationery and folders.

• Text:  We are NOT responsible for text which is smaller than 5 points.  The appearance of such small text WILL vary from order to order (print run to print run).  When using foil, text smaller than 8 points, script text and thin text are NOT recommended and may not stamp clearly. Business cards stamped onto gloss or marble gloss stocks may use foil text as small as 6.5 points.

• Lines:  Fine Lines of .003" or less do not reproduce well.

• Customer Artwork:  The following types of customer artwork will not reproduce well:  1) Artwork that is pixelated or of a low resolution. 2) Low resolution photos and files. 3) Artwork containing thin reverses or small reversed text under 9 points. 4) Artwork with double borders or concentric designs.
NOTE: NO returns will be accepted on ANY claims which contain any of the above mentioned artwork.

• Business Cards, Window Envelopes, Labels on Rolls, Folders and Folder Envelopes:  Are NOT compatible with laser printers and copiers.  NEVER run these items through any machine which generates heat.

• Foil Stamped and Flat Ink Envelopes and Folders:  Flaps and seams can cause a slight line or mark on any foil image or flat ink image that is stamped/printed across these areas (even on the front side of the envelope).  NO returns will be honored because of such imperfections.

Rush Orders: Although  production time is reduced, production tolerances may be affected. We do not recommend "rushing" jobs with registration, fine detail, complicated artwork, Pantone(R) colors, etc. On rush orders, NO returns will be honored because of such imperfections.

For customers requiring more than 3 revised proofs, a minimal charge will be added to your order. FREE - up to three revised proofs allowed during the proofing process.

When sending us your file(s), please include your order confirmation number in the subject line of your email message. On reorders, you may have us make any necessary textual changes at no charge.

All orders and reorders must be paid for at the time they are placed. Once we receive your paid order (or reorder), we proceed to enter your order into the system, create your proof and then send it to you over the internet (or fax) for your inspection. Upon your approval (or the passing of 3 business days) we proceed to print the order.

SPECIAL NOTE for PURCHASES PAID with a CHECK and MAIL ORDERS: For online orders paid with a check - your check MUST clear your bank BEFORE the order is processed / shipped. For orders placed by mail, your order form and payment must arrive before the order is processed / shipped.

As with all custom printed/stamped items - ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
Placement of an order indicates you agree to the Terms of Purchase.


Proofs

A complimentary online proof is created for all orders that require printing. Proofs are generally ready within hours after we receive your order and any attached files.

Once we receive your paid order, plus all necessary information and files, we create an image of what the item will look like when printed (a proof). The proof is designed to eliminate errors. It is your responsibility to review your online proof closely for ANY and ALL errors. A request for a reprint or refund will NOT be granted if you approve your proof and then later notify us that your order does, in fact, contain an error or does not look good. If you can not see your online proof clearly, decline your proof and indicate that you require an enlarged proof. If you see any errors in your proof (including, but not limited to spelling, grammatical errors, colors, typestyles, jagged lines, blurry pictures, etc.), decline your proof, indicate why and what needs to be corrected.

Changes to an order must be requested during the proofing process. Thereafter, no changes will be honored. We will make any necessary changes you request during the proofing process and will provide up to three revised proofs at no charge. For customers requiring more than 3 revised proofs, a minimal charge will be added to your order.

If there are no errors in your proof, indicate your approval via e-mail and we will proceed to process your order and ship it to you in a prompt and professional manner.

PROOFS SHOULD BE APPROVED OR DECLINED WITHIN 3 (THREE) BUSINESS DAYS, THEREAFTER, THE ORDER WILL BE CONSIDERED APPROVED AND PROMPTLY PRINTED. NO EXCEPTIONS.

A word about orders and proofs: If you submit an order and then indicate you will provide payment at a later time, we WILL NOT send you a proof until we receive your payment. Please do not ask us to setup your proof in advance. We simply will not send out any proofs for unpaid orders. Border X Press only processes orders (and creates proofs) for customers who have submitted paid orders.

We do not offer complimentary press proofs!

Proofs on exact reorders are generally not provided, unless you specifically ask for one or there is some question regarding the previous artwork.


Production Time
Applies to orders with proof approved by 12:00 pm CST the day prior to production.

The production time indicates how many working days it takes to manufacture the order after you approve your proof(s). Working days are Monday - Friday, excluding holidays. Please allow 3 to 4 days for shipping. Please note: If at some point during the production process it is determined that your order requires additional prepress or postproduction artwork (in order to properly produce the order), the production schedule will not be followed.

Shipping and Handling

• Shipping and handling fees provided by the online automated ordering system are for shipments with a final destination inside the United States of America. The rates are for ground delivery, allow 3 - 4 days transit time.

• On 'gift orders', the order can be delivered to an alternate address (different billing and delivery address possible).

• On business card orders for sets with quantities of 250 or 500 we will honor the shipping and handling fees provided by the online ordering system for shipments anywhere in the world.

• If you are one of our international customers and are ordering a product other than 250 or 500 business card sets please drop us a message and will give you the correct shipping charges for your order (Please include your City, Country and Postal Code in your message). If for some reason you do not notify us, we will use the most economical and expedient ship method available. The shipping charges will be added to your order and will be reflected on your receipt. Unless you indicate otherwise, shipments to the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia are shipped in the most inexpensive, yet prompt possible manner (usually via the United States Postal Service).

• On domestic orders, FedEx and UPS overnight/2nd day delivery is available for an additional cost.

• A 'Drop Ship' service is not currently available - packages are marked as coming from Border X Press. Tip - If you do not want an order recipient to see the packaging and/or return address, then have the order delivered directly to your address.


Pricing

All prices are in U.S. Dollars. Same price wholesale / retail. Although we welcome and continue to support other printers, resellers, distributors, etc., we do not offer a distributor, reseller or affiliate program discount. Prices are listed inside the product link pages located in the menu to your left. Our web site utilizes an advanced shopping cart system which automatically calculates and tracks the cost of your order. The contents of your shopping cart may be easily accessed at any time by clicking the 'View Your SHOPPING CART' button located at the bottom of the various category pages or the "View Cart" button located in the main page or the "View Cart" button located above.
